Temporary Property Accountant

Job Description

Key Responsibilities ($30 - $33.65 DOE)

Monthly Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of properties using cash and/or accrual accounting (project-level and above).
  • Generate scheduled charges for each property and coordinate with Property Managers for review and approval prior to rent runs.
  • Prepare and distribute monthly rent statements.
  • Assess late fees and post to tenant ledgers.
  • Process owner distributions and asset management fees.
  • Prepare and process CAM reconciliations.
  • Post monthly journal entries.
  • Review and reconcile spreadsheets and fixed asset schedules to financial statements and subsidiary ledgers.
  • Reconcile sub-ledgers to general ledger account balances.
  • Produce month-end financial reports (cash and/or accrual basis).
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations.
  • Process property tax payments.
  • Prepare year-end tax packages.
  • Assist with 1099 preparation.
  • Support special projects as assigned by the Accounting Supervisor or Controller.

Note: Cash and accrual project responsibilities apply to Project Accountant level and above.


Daily Responsibilities

  • Maintain tenant ledgers, including occupancy changes and billing adjustments.
  • Process Accounts Payable (A/P) and Accounts Receivable (A/R).
  • Monitor property-level cash flow.
  • Respond to inquiries from vendors, tenants, Property Managers, and clients.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Experience in property or real estate accounting preferred.
  • Strong understanding of general ledger accounting and reconciliations.
  • Ability to manage multiple properties and meet strict deadlines.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with property management and accounting teams.
